AMI Semiconductor Licenses Silicon Navigator Development Environment for OpenAccess; For Improved FPGA-to-ASIC Conversions
CUPERTINO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 1, 2006—
Silicon Navigator Corporation announced today that AMI
Semiconductor (Nasdaq:AMIS) has selected the Silicon Navigator's
Rocket Design Environment (RDE)(TM) with its Verilog RTL front-end for
its FPGA-to-ASIC conversion business. AMIS plans to develop its next
generation FPGA-to-ASIC conversion flow using RDE with Silicon
Navigator's Rocket Stage RTL front-end overlay utilizing OpenAccess.
"We wanted to upgrade our FPGA-to-ASIC flow to the next generation
infrastructure," remarked Karla Reynolds, CAD Director. "Silicon
Navigator is partnering with us to create the next generation flow
using their Rocket Design Environment."
Silicon Navigator licenses design-flow specific modules along with
a full development environment. These modules -- which the company has
named Rocket Stages(TM) -- are integrated around its Rocket Design
Environment. The first available module, the Rocket Stage for Design
Analysis and RTL, adds RTL extensions to OpenAccess and has proven
critical to the project success. The ability for AMIS to quickly map,
analyze and re-target incoming FPGA designs is a key benefit for AMIS
customers.
"Our initial goal was to solve key RTL engine needs for the AMIS
design flow," said Silicon Navigator CEO J. George Janac. "Our RTL
front-end, with minimization and mapping, has been customized to their
needs. We see a long term mutual benefit in helping AMIS expand their
tool offerings based on our components for their FPGA-to-ASIC
conversion businesses."
About the Rocket Design Environment
Built on the Si2 OpenAccess database, the Rocket Design
Environment extends OpenAccess services to include a customizable
desktop and Graphical User Interface (GUI), schematic, scripting and
layout visualization, and APIs. The Rocket Design Environment is
delivered with all OpenAccess APIs and translators, but contains
additional VHDL, Verilog, SDC, SDF and First Encounter APIs and other
extensions to the Si2-provided database. It is integration ready for
flows consisting of OpenAccess-ready proprietary and EDA-vendor
applications, and also legacy applications and scripts.
Rocket Stages: How Silicon Navigator Extends OpenAccess
The lack of RTL input capabilities in OpenAccess has been a major
challenge for developers involved in front-end designs and timing
analysis. The addition of the RTL front-end Rocket Stage to the Rocket
Design Environment provides the means to load both gate-level netlists
as well as elaborated RTL through its front-end engines. This Verilog
RTL input capability enables customers to develop linting, formal
verification and analysis engines for OpenAccess. The extension of a
functional API for Liberty models (Synopsys .lib format) provides EDA
developers using RDE with access to all the functional, timing and
parasitic data required by their applications.

About OpenAccess
OpenAccess is a community effort to provide true interoperability
among IC design tools through an open standard API and reference
database supporting that API for IC design. The OpenAccess Coalition
is a neutral organization of industry leaders that are leading this
effort operating under Si2 bylaws. Website: www.si2.org.
About Silicon Navigator
Silicon Navigator is a private company dedicated to accelerating
the adoption of Si2's powerful new OpenAccess database standard. The
company offers a complete development environment to companies moving
their design flows to OpenAccess, including a customizable desktop,
viewers for schematics, scripts, layouts, and timing, and a
comprehensive set of APIs. In addition, the company also offers design
flow-specific overlays which can be added to further extend OpenAccess
to address the unique requirements of diverse stages of IC design.
With Silicon Navigator, database migration is streamlined as the
infrastructure required to exploit the power of this modern database
is already done.
